New Read - My Lovesick Life as a '90s Otaku, Volume 4 (Final Volume)
I have reached the final volume of My Lovesick Life as a '90s Otaku and let me tell you, it was a fabulous ending to the series.
This volume picks up right where Volume 3 left off, showing Megumi going to and then walking away from the birthday party. As that was one of the last times she really had time speaking with Masamune.
It speeds through the rest of her childhood, into adulthood to flash to the present. Between childhood and adulthood she rejected the nerd she was, trying to pretend that part of her no longer existed.
She hated feeling like a social outcast and hiding her fandoms, so she just outright pretended they didn't exist. As she looks back on her life, she also realized how she felt she failed in many regards. But, she's better now and more aware now than ever. As she looks at her daughter and realizes who she is raising, an outgoing kid who doesn't judge anyone, she feels a sense that she's doing better. That Her friend explains, "This amazing kid over there - you helped shape her into this loving person who doesn't judge. You did that!" It's such a moment that, as a parent, hit hard.
I never know if I'm doing the right thing as a parent of 4 kids. But when I see how my kids are not accepting, how they are open to tell me stuff, how they help others, I get the same sense as Meggers realizing, "I'm doing okay."
The rest of the volume is important, but I'm running out of space!
Megumi's daughter befriends Masamune's son. Both of them are otaku / nerds. This brings Masamune back into her life. Oh, and did I mention he's single? Oh, and that ending!
I loved it from beginning to end and am so glad I read it. Thanks Mangagram for showing me this series!
