#EchoesOfWisdom had a high music bar to clear. Both BotW and TotK have massive scores that build into layered masterpieces over 100 hours. Despite being viewed as the the union of traditional top-down Zelda with the emergent gameplay of BotW/TotK, EoW cuts a music path of it's own.

The use of small scale ensembles lends a whimsy and personable feeling to the game, but it's the heavy use of woodwinds that really define it. There's no blarring trumpet or bombast that the series is known for.

For #VGMWednesday here is the "Hyrule Ranch" theme. This one surprised me the most. I expected to hear that ranch melody from OoT again because it lends so well to winds. While there are allusions to it, this theme makes something new rather than replaying a greatest hit.

That's what EoW does best with it's music; it feels familiar while not actually re-treading the same tired melodies and styles. It's a great accompaniment to a game trying to do the same.
