Chema Hernández GilIf you think about it, most US states are the largely arbitrary creations of various cessions, annexations, conquest and other "acquisitions" that then—courtesy of politics—became organized territories and eventually stars on the flag.<br><br>Today's internal borders could have ended up being drawn in a myriad of different ways. We could have ended up with 40 or 60 states. But each of those states now have two senators and a state government that has a say in modifying the US constitution. And it only took a couple of lifetimes.<br><br>I think this would have been most surprising to the Framers of the Constitution.
