I've decided I have time and attention to watch Akira Kurosawa's Dreams (1990), eight vignettes based on actual dreams the director had. It stars Akira Terao, Martin Scorsese, Chishū Ryū, Mieko Harada and Mitsuko Baisho. This is the 2016 blu-ray release from Criterion.
I've already finished Victoria S1.
Now getting on to Romper Stomper (1992), directed by Geoffrey Wright, starring Russell Crowe, Daniel Pollock, Jacqueline McKenzie, Tony Le-Nguyen and Colin Chin. It's about Australian nazis. Have I seen this before? I don't know.

Next after that is The Brass Teapot (2012), directed by Ramaa Mosley, starring Juno Temple, Michael Angarano, Alexis Bledel, Alia Shawkat, and Bobby Moynihan. I don't really know the rest of the cast but some of them may be names. It's a kind of magic realist film about a pot that delivers money if you experience pain. So.

Just a quick interlude to tell you that it isn't normal that I watch everything I got on one day. I'm doing this now because all three DVDs have flaws and I was worried that they wouldn't physically work without skipping or otherwise need to be returned. So far so good.
The third DVD I got is Moonlighting (1982), directed by Jerzy Skolimowski, starring Jeremy Irons as a Polish refugee in England. I'm happy to be watching this Skolimowski movie before Eo, which I got from Criterion last year but haven't seen. I bought that one because I was moved by Skolimowski's Criterion Closet visit.

Oh and the book I got is The Sever Per-Cent Solution by Nicholas Meyer. It's a fairly famous Sherlock Holmes book he wrote in the 70s. Meyer went on to be a big time director, after Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan.

First watched Darkness Falls (2003), directed by Jonathan Liebesman, starring Emma Caulfield, Emily Browning, and a bunch of people I've never heard of. It's a story about a curse. I don't know, it wasn't the worst thing I've ever seen.

Now I'm watching Maggie's Plan (2015), directed by Rebecca Miller, starring Greta Gerwig, Ethan Hawke, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph, Travis Fimmel, Wallace Shawn, and Julianne Moore. Some of those are minor roles. It's really Gerwig, Hawke and Moore's film. It's about a ridiculous romantic triangle, but it's funny and it's good. It fits with Gerwig's kind of movie.

Currently watching Autumn in New York (2000), directed by Joan Chen, starring Winona Ryder and Richard Gere, with a vast supporting cast of stars. It's about impossible, inappropriate, and tragic love. And it seems to have made money.

I'm watching The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015), directed by Guy Ritchie, starring Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer, Alicia Vikander, Elizabeth Debicki, and Hugh Grant. I saw this in the theater when it came out and didn't much like it. But I'm giving it another go despite everything. The studio spent too much promoting it so it lost money.

Giving my circa 2004 portable #DVD player I picked up for $22 on eBay a go. Holds a charge, looks better than I expected for a mid-00s LCD screen, really loud so gotta use headphones but I would if in public anyway. Might not use this on a plane given the noise which reminds me of my #Dreamcast
After everything else I've watched today, I'm finishing up with the 1966 #documentary A Time for Burning, about a white Lutheran congregation in Omaha, Nebraska encouraging itself to reach across the color line to a sister church in North Omaha, which is and was predominantly Black. I came across this #film at the free community event yesterday. I'd never heard of it, and am glad to see it. The film is almost entirely from the point of view and almost all the footage is of the white ministers and leadership.
I should add that the racism is real, and none of the ministers come across as exempt from that, not even the minister who initiated the contact, who ended up resigning.
