I want to use systemd-boot. I'm using #vmware workstation. Everything I've read says there should be boot options in the #vm settings where I can set it to either #BIOS or #EUFI, but that's not there, so I added a couple lines to the .vmx file to make it use EUFI. Rei
An update to my Linux situation.

Long story short for what happened prior is that on Fedora 40, Firefox took ages to load and even after it finally did, it and other apps would frequently start Not Responding.

Currently I don't have access to my PC cause I'm not home, so I just successfully installed Nobara on my laptop instead. I heard it's based on Fedora but more performance-based? After spending a lot of time trying to get my laptop to recognize the USB I was trying to boot it from (which went smoother on my PC despite that having been my first time, so you'd think it'd be easier the second time around), it's done.

And the verdict is... It works. Granted, I've only booted into Nobara twice so far, so my sample size is small, but apps load instantly even if it's right after the boot. I haven't used it enough yet to know if the Not Responding will be an issue here as well, but it's certainly a good sign that Firefox runs right off the bat. I even intentionally left several tabs open and then restarted the laptop to see how it'd handle it.

I find it weird, though, how my laptop runs (so far 🤞) Nobara better than my PC runs Fedora. My PC is a lot better than my laptop. I'm not sure if something went seriously wrong somewhere along the way with my specific Fedora installation, or if Nobara is just that much better for performance.

I intend on trying out Nobara on my PC as well once I get back home, but for that, I'll need help with something: I don't have enough space for Nobara on my PC because I used a lot of it to install Fedora. If Fedora's not going to work out for me, but Nobara is, I won't mind uninstalling Fedora and replacing it with this. My question is how do I go about doing that? I turned some space to Unallocated Space and installed Fedora on that. How do I "delete" Fedora and turn its storage into Unallocated Space again, free for me to use it up for Nobara?

#Linux #Fedora #NobaraLinux #LinuxHelp

Rei
So relatively recently I thought of trying out Linux, and then the whole Recall thing got announced, which pushed me even more in this direction. I'm not ready for a complete switch just yet, but I did make a dual boot with Windows 10 on one side and Fedora on the other.

There's an issue I consistently have, though. Whenever I boot into Fedora, the first app I open (which is usually Firefox) takes ages to load. After that it's fine (for the most part, more of that in a bit), but when I first access Firefox, a good 3-5 minutes is spent on waiting for it to allow me to do anything.

Now that alone is not that big of an issue, if it's just a few minutes and just whenever I first boot into Linux that day. But for the past couple days, on top of this, I get frequent "Not responding" on stuff like Firefox and Files. It would probably do the same thing on other stuff, but I don't have a bunch of apps installed yet, so I wouldn't know. It's gotten to a point where I have my tablet within arm's reach in case Fedora decides that I won't be able to use my PC for like 5 minutes. Especially cause I can't even forcefully close the program and reopen it. Even that takes a long time, so I might as well just let it recover on its own.

But I'm not sure why this is happening? Any other Linux users (particularly Fedora users) that have encountered this as well?

#Linux #Fedora #FedoraLinux #LinuxHelp
