<a href="https://literatur.social/tags/DIY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DIY</span></a> <a href="https://literatur.social/tags/Repair" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Repair</span></a></p>

Archus Byte<p>Our dryer stopped working. After some investigation I discovered our motor pulley exploded. The motor pulley (not idler pulley) is screwed onto the shaft of the motor and makes the belt turn. It kind of looks like a oddly shaped bobbin with screw threads. A replacement part is only $8! Carlos Rodrigues 🪣<p>This same CRT had already underwent surgery on the previous weekend.</p><p>It's normally connected to my Mega Drive — which is still PAL (50Hz) and hence didn't trigger any jitter — and the RGB input was very dark.</p><p>Other RGB sources with different cables were dark as well. Turns out it was pulling the input signal way down towards ground. Replacing the 82Ω pull-down resistors in the R/G/B lines (while still keeping things under 1V peak-to-peak) did the trick.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/electronics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>electronics</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/repair" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>repair</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/crt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>crt</span></a></p>
Carlos Rodrigues 🪣<p>OK... so what exactly was wrong with this CRT?</p><p>As it's often the case... hard to say. I replaced the main filter capacitor but that wasn't it. Then I replaced a few more capacitors in the low-voltage horizontal drive circuit, but improvements were marginal, if any. I didn't have any 100V+ capacitors so had to stop there.</p><p>I'd already messed with the settings in the service menu to no avail but... this time shifting the picture to the left made the jitter go away. 🎉</p><p>Why? 🤷‍♂️</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/electronics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>electronics</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/repair" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>repair</span></a></p>

Ari [APz] Sovijärvi<p>Here we go, the first production version of the Who Dunnit's 3D printed reel. In the end, 7 different prototypes were made, zeroing in on the shape and then the transparent material. Naturally also learned about designing stuff with FreeCAD while doing it. </p><p>Seen in this video is the 2 part model, where the hub and wheel part are printed separately so no support is needed. Before this I also quickly tried on the one piece version but didn't put decal on it.</p><p>In the end I reused the old decal as it came off in good shape and it seems to stay on the reel just fine.</p><p>All in all, this was a fun project that taught me a lot. Next I'll probably go back to tackling the modified Road Show project when I have the extra time.</p><p><a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/pinball" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pinball</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/3dprinting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>3dprinting</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/freecad" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>freecad</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.games/tags/repair" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>repair</span></a></p>
