MDMRNOne of the things I have been talking about on Pixelfed is how much I like energy drinks. I have a problem... Do you like Red Bull? Are you frugal with your money? Do you shop at Aldi? Well, then check out Red Thunder. It's...mostly like Red Bull. And I mean mostly. It's almost tasting like Red Bull. Something is slightly off. MDMRNI was at Target recently and was dragging, so picked up the Accelerator Active Energy "Cherry Ice Pop" flavored energy drink. It has 200 milligrams of natural caffeine, per the label and zero sugar. The flavor? If you've had a cherry ice pop, it's that. Literally that flavor. Somehow they melted it down and bottled it up. It's wild how much it tastes just like that kind of an ice pop. Have you tried this energy drink? MDMRNOh boy am I a sucker for gimmicky sodas. And I always find myself trying out the newest Mountain Dew products. This week it's the new Game Fuel flavors. I snagged a bottle of Citrus Cherry Game Fuel to try out and let me tell you...it's exactly as advertised. No, literally. It has that citrusy taste of a Mountain Dew plus some notes of artificial cherry. How I described it immediately to my wife was "Code Red, but Better." MDMRNLooks like 7-Eleven is getting into the business of making energy drinks now. As they were currently BOGO, I picked up two. One for yesterday, one for today. I drink an energy drink a day, so this seemed like a useful pickup. Each can has 200 mg of caffeine, the equivalent to about a 16 oz cup of coffee. The two flavors I grabbed were Paradise Pulse and Cosmic Cherry. I'll talk about them individually. Paradise Pulse tastes...uhm...I don't know. It tasted like an energy drink, like the cliché energy drink flavor that you get out of a Red Bull, but much more medicinal. I couldn't pinpoint like a very specific artificial flavor. Maybe it was going for a tropical punch, but it missed the mark. Cosmic Cherry tasted like liquid Luden's cough drops. Literally. Like, I have no other means of describing it. At some point, I may have to try the other two flavors, but I will not be likely to get either of these two again. Maybe Cosmic Cherry - Liquid Luden's isn't the worst thing in the world. MDMRNIt's 2024 and it is almost fall. You know what that means? New Mountain Dew Voo Dew! I saw it sitting at a gas station and had to try it, cause I'm that person. The verdict? I hated it. I tried to pinpoint the flavor, it was sicky sweet and kind of fruity like a Starburst. People online have tried guessing that it tastes like a Pink Starburst, which is my least favorite of them all, and - frankly, I can see it. Have you had 2024's mystery Voo Dew? MDMRNAs a person who appreciates gimmicky soda and Mountain Dew, when I heard that 7-Eleven had their own, new custom Mountain Dew flavor, I had to check it out. Enter "Mountain Dew Infinite Swirl." My initial impression is...it's okay. The flavor starts by hitting you with subtle pineapple followed by a berry / regular Mountain Dew aftertaste. However, for me, overall the flavor was kind of subdued. I didn't mind it, but my kids - well, they really liked it. While I had a few sips, they guzzled down the rest of the bottle. I guess you could say it was a hit at home, even if I only thought it was okay. Would get again for the kids, but unlikely to get again for myself. MDMRNMy initial thoughts trying out Rowdy Energy's "Strawberry Lemonade" - Meh, no thank. My more detailed thoughts, plus story time - So, I was at the grocery store when I saw this sitting on the shelf on-sale for 60¢. I thought to myself, "Sure, I'll try it, why not. I like Strawberry lemonade flavoring." Put it in the fridge and tried it the next day as my early morning energy drink. The result? Meh. The flavor was just...well, off. I didn't taste any strawberry lemonade, mostly a very subtle flavor with a green tea-esque aftertaste. It felt more like a lightly strawberry flavored bubbly green tea with such minimal flavor to feel borderline like a seltzer. But the aftertaste was strong, for me at least. Long story short, yea, I didn't like it. I finished it because I wanted the caffeine (~130 mg) and I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it. MDMRNDid you know... That there was a Warheads Sour! Green Apple Soda? Neither did I until I found it at the Dollar Tree. I mean, I just had to try it. I love gimmicky sodas, even if they end up tasting terrible. This one, though, was a big surprise. I poured some out for myself and each of my kids. We all took a sip and, at once, recognize that it tasted like biting into a sweet, green apple. No sour taste or aftertaste. It just tasted like a sweet, green apple. Weirdly realistic flavor, even more so than a regular green apple candy. Looking at the ingredients list, it had a all sorts of malic acid - so it SHOULD have been sour. But, to us - no sourness. Just sweetness. The kids really liked it. We may be looking for it again next Dollar Tree visit. TL;DR - Warheads Sour! Green Apple Soda is better than it has any right to be, actually tasting like a green apple and not very sour. MDMRNIt's springtime again and we've got two new Mountain Dew Baja variants for our drinking pleasure. I mean, I had to try them both. I love me some Mountain Dew. First, we tried Mountain Dew Baja Point Break Punch. Think of what would happen if you took Kool Aid Tropical Punch and transformed it into a Mountain Dew variant. That's what this tastes like. It's slightly bubble Tropical Punch. Personally, I liked it. So did all of my kids, which is good cause my wife also got us a case of the cans later. The second is Baja Laguna Lemonade. It's a Dew infused mango lemonade flavor. You can definitely taste some of the mango with a classic Dew aftertaste. Personally, this was the one I liked better, but that's just me. MDMRNHere are some unique drinks I have tried over the past month. The first is Ghost Pepper soda. It is from the brand <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/RocketFizz?src=hash" title="#RocketFizz" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#RocketFizz</a>, which I had never heard of before trying it. How was it? Imagine orange soda with a slight heat to it in the back of your throat. It was...odd. Not super spicy. If you like some heat and an orangesque flavor, may be worth it. MDMRNSo, as I had posted before, my parents got me a number of Ryse Fuel energy drinks to try for my <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/birthday?src=hash" title="#birthday" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#birthday</a>. Let's plow through three more of them! First, we have Baja Burst. It's called "twisted lime" in terms of what flavor it is. For me, think <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/BajaBlast?src=hash" title="#BajaBlast" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#BajaBlast</a>, but better. Yes, I said it. It has a similar taste, but something about it I just enjoy more than Baja Blast. Shocked me too. The second is Ring Pop. You know that generic "berry" flavor that candies have. It's a non-descript berry, it could be any of them if someone told you that it was a specific berry. That's what this tastes like. Which, I suppose, is fitting for a Ring Pop flavored energy drink. The third is Tiger's Blood. It's a watermelon, strawberry, and coconut flavored energy drink. I genuinely liked this one. A lot.
