Probably more widely notable for Nicholas Cage's character (who is awesome) but I loved it for the beautiful cinematography, the very deliberate framing and tracking shots. YayForThat<p>As with all Perkins' films, I was a little disappointed by <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Longlegs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Longlegs</span></a>. Visually great, with wonderfully wide angles, but it couldn't grab me emotionally. His films have their very own anxiety, which I enjoy. But unfortunately his stories are a bit half-baked. Monroe's acting is strong with its minimalism and perfectly timed facial expressions. Cage's character, is strangely unsettling but remains pale. DirtyOldTown 🍉<p>I just saw <a href="https://mefi.social/tags/Longlegs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Longlegs</span></a> and <a href="https://mefi.social/tags/Oddity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Oddity</span></a> back-to-back. I was impressed and fond of both, though I think I may have preferred Oddity by a touch. </p><p>Oddity, from writer-director <a href="https://mefi.social/tags/DamianMcCarthy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DamianMcCarthy</span></a> (who also made the <a href="https://mefi.social/tags/Shudder" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Shudder</span></a> fave <a href="https://mefi.social/tags/Caveat" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Caveat</span></a>) is a bit less ambitious than Longlegs, as its plot is fairly elemental and can be sussed out quickly enough. But whereas the much-hyped Nic Cage thriller is a mix of hits and misses, Oddity nails positively every beat.
