My talk "Why (and how) we’re migrating many of our servers from Linux to the BSDs" has been accepted, and I’ll be honored to present it in June at BSDCan in Ottawa.
The joy of meeting BSD friends in person again (and those I haven’t had the chance to meet live yet) will be immense, and the honor of sharing my story in Canada is truly beyond measure, especially considering the level of other talks and all the people attending.
Of course, I’ll be bringing various BSD Cafe gadgets with me!

The FreeBSD team conquered a massive 7,000 bug backlog 
Their approach involved setting up custom dashboards using GrimoireLab, which provided valuable insights into their Bugzilla system. They introduced new metrics like "unattended" and "abandoned" tickets to prioritize their efforts.

So since 2004 #FreeBSD has a security system called "ugidfw" or "firewall-like access controls for file system objects" where you apply firewall like rules to permit or deny uid:gid to specific directories or files.
For example I could say:
add subject uid 22 gid 22 object uid 0 gid 0 filesys / type r mode r;
and then SSHD could only ever be able read regular files owned by root:wheel but never write them, etc.
It's a great way to detect with applications are trying to do strange things with permissions you are not expecting.
But it is a huge pain to debug problems, there are basically no guides or how-to examples. I keep meaning to write something up, but before I do is anyone aware of or interested in ugidfw?
Pro tip: You can use `sudo pkg version -vRL=` command to list all upgradeable packages on FreeBSD and then apply those updates using pkg. See https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/pkg-command-list-upgradeable-packages-freebsd/ for more info.

So no, I don't use TrueNAS. Whatever many reasons they and their indolent fanboys push for moving to Linux, and I have heard them all, it's irrelevant. They didn't just bite the hand that feeds, they went straight over to the clown-show makeup meme table and slathered it on; trying so hard to convince everyone including themselves that this betrayal was the Good and Ethical thing to do.
Luckily there are alternatives, and those will get my time, engineering efforts, and fiscal support. One thing to remember: alienated users do not recommend those formerly loved products to their employers, they do not "spread the love" via organic marketing, and perhaps sometimes they dissuade when they would formerly embrace.
Shots 1 and 2: I forced a series of errors by running pkbasify (in Konsole, alongside various other applications) with insufficient free memory and insufficient swap space.
Shots 3 and 4: the second run completed without error.

The "daemon" executable shipped with the latest #TrueNAS still doesn't support the only jail environments available. Replacing "daemon" with the one from the root works.
A little worried now, since #FreeBSD tends to delete packages for older distros and seems to forbid any kind of mirroring beyond caching. Hopefully TrueNAS isn't dead?
