The #FoodForest - Australia
Short description of your place and practices:
"The Food Forest is a 15 hectare property in #Gawler where we grow over 160 varieties of fruit, nuts, grains, vegetables and timber. If you haven't already tasted any of our goodies, come along and see us every second week at the #Adelaide Showground Farmers Market.
"We offer a consultancy service, run courses on permaculture, building with #strawbales, fruit & nut production, #sustainable house design and more. Coming along for a tour or one of our twice-yearly open days is a great way to get a taste of what we're all about."

A Community Event Hosted by Santa Barbara Permaculture Network https://www.sbpermaculture.org/

Santa Barbara Permaculture Network celebrates its 5th Annual Eco Hero Award, a community event that honors those making significant, positive change in the world.
How we continue to build will affect the chances of survival for our grandchildren. Modern buildings are often toxic to both the builders & the inhabitants, with many becoming chemically sensitive to products used. Natural building, with materials like clay, straw, wood & stone are not only non-toxic, they are life enhancing, and if designed correctly, conserve heat & energy. Natural building has joined the modern age with beautiful and functional structures, that are also less likely to burn in wildfires.
Please join us for a very special evening with Bill, Athena & Roxanne in person, with time for conversation and questions about Natural Building. **What is it? Why did it become their passion & lifework**? How is it different from Green Building? What do they see as the future of natural building, especially for young people looking for a meaningful lifepath & career.
**Sunday, March 23, 6:30-9pm, 2025**

Guys, the famous 31-year old temperate food forest / forest garden at Dartington in Devon, UK is under threat.
https://www.agroforestry.co.uk/save-dartington-forest-garden/
After spending the better part of 1/2 a decade studying planting and especially permaculture in northern Arizona, I recently found out about and emailed the AZU Extension program master gardners. They replied within an hour on a day they weren't officially in the office. Their first email had everything I already knew plus about 20-30% more than I had learned on my own. Their second included a list of plants which are more and less fire resistant and guidance for keeping the land safe in case of a fire, along with planting guidelines.
Seriously, if you are at all interested in #permaculture reach out to your local extension office. I was just blown away by the knowledge and wisdom they have to share for free!
We visited Dartington a few years ago just to see this forest garden. It was an inspiring day and great to see how the integration of food/non-food plants. There’s no substitute for visiting a forest garden if you want to start creating your own and the one at Dartington is an exemplar. #forestgarden #permaculture #growing https://www.agroforestry.co.uk/save-dartington-forest-garden/
Please sign this petition to Dartington Hall Trust to ensure their counterproductive and frankly insane decision to end Martin Crawford's lease on the best example of a #Permaculture #Agroforestry #FoodForest #ForestGarden in the temperate world!
Martin Crawford's work is so pioneering and important and MUST be allowed to continue. https://chng.it/cn2cCGFhbs
Way to go Minneapolis!
Minneapolis to Open North America’s First City-Run Biochar Facility https://biochartoday.com/2025/03/12/minneapolis-to-open-north-americas-first-city-run-biochar-facility/
Cities generate large amounts of wood waste from tree removals due to pests, disease, and infrastructure maintenance. Without intervention, this waste decomposes and releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Minneapolis’ new facility aims to reduce emissions by capturing carbon in #biochar which remains stable in the soil for over a thousand years. Each year, the facility is expected to:
Process over 3,000 tons of wood waste
Produce more than 500 tons of biochar
Remove nearly 3,700 tons of CO₂ from the atmosphere, equivalent to taking 789 cars off the road
By turning waste into a long-term climate solution, Minneapolis is demonstrating how cities can integrate carbon sequestration into their waste management strategies.

Microplastics are reducing plant photosynthetic capacity.

I bet they are also interfering with the rhizophagy cycle.

I am always impressed with the ability of the #fedi to provide answers. So here goes…
I need a bunch of grow tubes. But holy smokes, they are expensive unless you place an insanely large order.
Anyone know of a buyer’s union, or co-op situation? Here’s an example of pricing disparities
#Philippines #AgroEcology highlight from @AgroecologyMap
"Kuatro Marias' Agroecology Farm, located in San Narciso, Victoria, Oriental Mindoro, is a pioneering model of sustainable agriculture in the Philippines. Established in 1998, the farm operates on the principles of agroecology, focusing on harmonizing agricultural productivity with #environmental #stewardship. With a mission rooted in #biodiversity protection and #sustainable resource use, the farm avoids synthetic chemicals, instead leveraging natural cycles to nurture its crops, livestock, and aquaculture systems. Its name symbolizes balance and sustainability, honoring the four elements and the proprietor’s four daughters.
"The farm showcases an Integrated Diversified Organic Farming System (#IDOFS), where crops, livestock, and aquaculture coexist in a symbiotic relationship. This includes a #FoodForest with diverse trees like #ube and #cinnamon, a pond supporting #tilapia and other fish, and naturally fed chickens and hogs. A unique #SeedBank ensures the preservation of genetic diversity while minimizing waste. These practices not only enhance productivity but also build resilience against climate change and natural disasters, embodying agroecological principles that prioritize soil health, ecological balance, and community well-being."
