This piece was a variation of an actual Soga Shōhaku Ukiyo-e painting of a blue oni from the 1700s. I wanted to utilize that style for a Mario themed painting of Mario fighting the demon Bowser. This piece was very difficult to make because this was the beginning of my digital art journey. At that time, I was using a work iPad that was issued to me that I was unable to put an actual art program on. To do this picture, I used the camera app and it's mark up feature. Using that to create a painting had many challenges, but the biggest one was that it wasn't designed to handle something with so much information in it. I was go to save the photo and it would crash the program and get rid of anything I drew before it saved. This happened many times. The way I got around it was I would draw a bit, take a screenshot of what I did, and then draw over that screenshot. My life got so much easier when I got a tablet and an art program that was actually designed for drawing. Before switching to that though, I made this ambitious piece that took me a week to draw (due to the technical difficulties.) I was doing this during my classroom training for me work and then after when I would get home, using my phone to reference the original.
