after shedding some tears, i got auth-source support rolling, maybe some rough edges still.
the real question is how to foist such changes onto people.
I am once again faced with the bleak irony of people who install onto their computer some 5 or 10 apps via FlatPak or Docker, including VSCode, each installed with their own entire copies of Node.js and Electron.js (differing only in their minor revision number), while also complaining about Emacs being “bloated” because it ships with a miniature web browser and fully-featured e-mail client.

spring is on its way, the first violets are popping up out of the still hard brown soil.
and this has me wondering, how is guile-emacs going? word was, in spring 2025 it would explode on to the scene and infect all our computers and also our brains with enthusiasm!
i switched from company to corfu, and it works everywhere except for ... in the mastodon.el compose buffer!
can anyone throw me a bone as to how they got mastodon.el completions (handles, tags, emoji) working with corfu? (i know it works, so mastodon.el shouldn't need any patching... well, supposedly it works, i have heard mastodon.el users say it was working for them...)

So I just started a course on lisp.
What do people recommend for a beginner's environment?
1. which editor / ide? is emacs worth investing time to learn if my aim is really lisp not emacs?
2. which Common Lisp? sbcl? closure?
3. which extensions / lisp plugins eg SLIME?
I emphasise - beginner. Also I very much prefer to install standard macOS apps (dmg -> Applications) not "brew" etc
