Otaku In Review Fall Preview 2024
@station and I are back for another season preview as we discuss the Fall 2023 anime season. It's another super long episode where we talk about ALL THE GODDAMN THINGS we could watch!
Demon Lord 2099 Episode 1 Impressions
This was a very good first episode. I liked how it wasn't just a demon lord reincarnating in to modern day Japan, but a weird future where Japan and an alternate world fused together.
I'm not sure how this will continue though. If it tries to be too serious I'll probably bow out. So hopefully it can continue to infuse some of the bits of humor this first episode showed at times.
The Do-Over Damsel Conquers the Dragon Emperor Episode 1 Impressions
First off this looks great. Yet it is another one of those shows where the MC is about to die and goes back to a younger version of herself.
It was pretty dark at first, but it looks like its going to be a bit lighter going forward now that she changed her fate at this point. Not sure about the age gap jokes, but hopefully they drop that and focus on the interactions.
Will give this another episode or 2 to see how it feels with a bit more development.
A Terrified Teacher at Ghoul School! Episode 1 Impressions
So I laughed my ass off at a lot of moments. The MC is weak and easily scared, but ends up teaching at a school of yokai.
From the get go, it was just turn the brain off and enjoy the ride. I look forward to the showing letting us get to know more students each episode.
If it can keep the humor going, I can't wait to watch this weekly.
TsumaSho Episode 1 Impressions
Nope, this didn't hit for me. I was actually excited for this one, and I think it could be a fun and emotional run...
The whole dead wife/mom coming back as a 10 year old tho. Even though it isn't meant to be seen as twisted, it just kept throwing me off.
Pass for me.
Puniru is a cute slime Episode 1 impressions
this show is absolutely ridiculous and already funnier than that Nokotan crap from last season lol.
Random nonsense of a show about a dude who created a slime as a kid, and now he's a bit older and dealing with her antics.
It can borderline on the ecchi, but even those jokes turn in absurdity. I don't know why I laughed so much, but I did. I'll see if the humor can hold up in the next couple episodes.
The Healer Who Was Banished From His Party, Is, in Fact, the Strongest Episode 1 Impressions
Not much to go on here. This was quite generic for a start, but I'll give it an episode or 2 to see if it gets more interesting.
Narsena was probably the only interesting character in terms of her energy, as Laust so far was a bit boring.
A follow up on The Most Notorious "Talker" Runs the World's Greatest Clan....
After thinking it over for some time after writing my first episode impressions...
I really don't feel like watching more of that one, so I'm not. It's been dropped for Fall. The first to get cut.
You Are Ms. Servant. Episode 1 Impressions
This show doesn't have too much that is new, but it looks great. There were some legit laugh out loud and emotional moments.
I always like having rom-coms to watch each season, and this was at least better than Amagami Sisters with its episode 1.
We'll see where this goes in the next couple episodes, but I can see myself enjoying this one
Ranma 1/2 (2024) Episode 1 Impressions
I was wondering how this new adaptation would be, and for the most part it felt mostly like the original and its episode 1. There are some slight differences, including dialogue. (I've rewatched Ranma a lot LOL)
I like the animation and updated character designs, but it was weird that when they decided to show nudity they had no butt crack or nipples... Like just don't show them if you don't want to have that in the show. It felt like barbie dolls.
I don't enjoy the OP and ED theme songs too much. Didn't feel like Ranma music, but that's just me being an old men yelling at clouds. I'll just skip them from here on out.
Still hyped to keep up with this one
Goodbye, Dragon Life Episode 1 Impressions
This entire episode 1 just felt like a short OVA. If I didn't know there were more episodes on the way, I would have not expected anything further. lol
The animation and character designs were fine, but nothing remarkable. I'll give it a couple more episode to see how this one goes, but nothing here to make me hyped for more at this point.
Tying the Knot with an Amagami Sister Episode 1 Impressions
I remember reading a volume or 2 of the manga and finding it enjoyable, so I was looking forward to this anime.
The first episode was definitely a mixed bag for me. It set up the cast, but something about the animation and the female character designs felt off.
The humor was standard in an ecchi harem rom-com, and that's good enough for me to check out more episodes. I'm a simple man, what can I say. LOL
I'll Become a Villainess Who Goes Down in History Episode 1 Impressions
Kind of a standard Villainess comedy, but that wasn't a bad thing. The MC is very energetic and fun, so she held my attention for the entier episode. That said, everyone else in the cast is so cookie cutter and dull.
If the show can keep the MC interesting going forward, I'll keep up with it. Hopefully the rest of the cast provides more as they move in to their teens.
The Most Notorious "Talker" Runs the World's Greatest Clan Episode 1 Impressions
Yawn is how I felt. It looks really good, and the action was alright. Didn't really connect with any of the characters, even with the MC's back story.
I'll give this one a second episode, but not impressed by episode one story or character wise.
Let This Grieving Soul Retire Episode 1 Impressions:
This was just some dumb fun. I love how the MC doesn't want his leader role, and keeps passing the buck even if it leads to him getting in trouble. Which then had him dump the punishment off to others.
I found myself laughing a lot. If it can keep up the humor, I'll definitely enjoy this one as a nice turn off your brain and have fun series.
Loner Life In Another World Episode 1 impressions
My biggest fear about this anime adaptation was it not being able to capture the MC's ADHD and how he is constantly thinking and moving from thought to thought.
This first episode kind of confirms that fear for now. The MC lost the erratic mindset that I connected with, and while that is best for the average viewer, it removes what I love about the MC in the light novel.
I'll watch this regardless, but first episode is underwhelming.
Finished putting together the list of anime I plan to check out this Fall anime season. A few sequels/continuing series, then a bunch of new stuff.
At this time I don't plan on adding more, but sometimes a series may catch my eye after it begins airing.
