What would be a sensible step up from running my local network stuff on Raspberry Pi devices? Thinking an old mini desktop machine with proxmox to run a few bits separately? #homenetwork #proxmox #homelab
Do any of you recommend NextCloud? Why? Why not? #SelfHosted #HomeLab
I'm curious to hear what others are #SelfHosting! Here's my current setup:
Accessibility heavily influences my choices—I use a screen reader full-time (#ScreenReader), so I prioritize services usable without sight (#InclusiveDesign, #DigitalAccessibility). Always open to discussing accessibility experiences or recommendations!
I've also experimented with:
I don't really have a media collection, so no Plex or Jellyfin here (#MediaServer)—but I'm always open to suggestions! I've gotten a bit addicted to exploring new self-hosted services!
What's your setup like? Any cool services you'd recommend I try?

Hey #homelab and #selfhosting gang, I need your advice. I have a Synology DS218play that is really showing its age. It's time to upgrade but I'm not sure what to get.
Storage-wise, I'm doing just fine. Only a couple TBs. I use this mainly for storing my personal photos, Synology Drive, etc.
I'm interested in the DS723+ but I read that it's pretty locked down to Synology hardware. Is there a decent FLOSS option that doesn't make NAS maintenance my hobby?
Sometimes I think, maybe I should use TrueNAS, and then I remembered that their C•Suite decided to give the
So no, I don't use TrueNAS. Whatever many reasons they and their indolent fanboys push for moving to Linux, and I have heard them all, it's irrelevant. They didn't just bite the hand that feeds, they went straight over to the clown-show makeup meme table and slathered it on; trying so hard to convince everyone including themselves that this betrayal was the Good and Ethical thing to do.
Luckily there are alternatives, and those will get my time, engineering efforts, and fiscal support. One thing to remember: alienated users do not recommend those formerly loved products to their employers, they do not "spread the love" via organic marketing, and perhaps sometimes they dissuade when they would formerly embrace.
Pangolin allows me to provide my #selfhosted services from my home lab without needing to open a port in my #firewall.
Essentially, it's a self-hosted alternative to #CloudflareTunnels, running on a #VPS. Due to the current political situation in the #USA, I preferred not to use Cloudflare.
Pangolin is based on #WireGuard and #Newt, enabling a #certificate-based direct connection after installing a client on the home server.
I'm extremely satisfied with it and now have no open ports in my private #network!
Does anyone else know of a good self hosted ebook library server that can be used with native multi-platform reading app support and sync reading progress?
I really don't want to read books from a web app, I want to be able to read while offline whether on my iPhone, iPad or my Boox e-reader (Android)
I love the way BookFusion works, but I don't want to rely on their cloud storage (or any company's cloud storage for that matter)

We first thought about just switching to another provider but then decided to just self host it.
It is running on my #homelab and accessible with a tunnel remotely. I noticed a few small bugs and hence will try to fix them after my exams.
New instance, so time for a re #introduction post!
Hi all, I'm Phillip!

A free Netgear R7000 AC1900 router fell into my lap.
It didn't have a power supply, but I found a beefy 12v brick with the right connector in my junk stash.
Now I'm trying to reset it so I can get it configured.
Repurposing my old #Proxmox node into a #retrogaming station with #batocera. The hardest part would be to write Batocera image to an NVMe drive ) I’ll boot #Ubuntu from a USB stick to download and write the image from there.

Anyone know of a #selfhosted spotify replacement? Ideally with music discovery features? #homelab

The only exception are purpose built networking devices. But even then, I'm cheap.
Not used Juniper cheap. Not used Cisco cheap. Not Ubiquiti cheap. Not Mikrotik cheap.
Qotom cheap. And this just showed up in my search... I'm a sucker for SFP ports, but today is not that day.
I have a rule- the last time I spent more than $1000 on tech, it was worth $250 a couple of years later. And I wasn't buying anything a couple of years later, so why spend that much money again?
I profiled my use, and found that aside from some corner cases, I could get by spending $250 or less on all of my purchases.
So, I run stupid cheap gear. Sub-$200. Most of the time, all this stuff does is sleep. When it is in use, I need bandwidth and memory. So, the only new purchases are SFP+ modular network cards for the form factors that support them. And modules.
Everything else is refurb or salvage. Disks, memory, GPUs, SFF PCs, laptops, all of it. #homelab
