The morning after the big winds from the ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, our regular King Parrots turned up for a rest and some seed in the relatively dry veranda.
They definitely looked a bit worse for wear, but they got a good feed and some shelter for a while.
Lace Monitor in the backyard this afternoon after I put an egg on the offering rock this morning. (note the lack of egg in these photos).
(egg wasn't entirely up to human consumption, as it floated when doing the float test).

Low clouds this morning in the mountains, bit that didn't stop a collection of birds turning up as soon as I stepped on the veranda.
They wanted food, but I don't have any.
Also, look how wide a kookaburra can open its beak!
We had some hopeful visitors this afternoon. They were looking for free food, but we didn't have anything appropriate (bugs, skinks, small snakes).

It's mostly overcast today, so the Red-necked Wallabies are out grazing during the day.
The first one was just across the road from where we are staying, the other three further down the road.
We did the Koondaii Loop track this morning and encountered a few birds along the way. Here are four of them.
A Grey Goshawk, checking us out.
A Brown Cuckoo-Dove.
A Rufous Fantail.
And a Bassian Thrush.
A lot fewer wallabies hanging around at the moment. Might be because it is summer, since we usually visit the Bunya Mountains in winter, but there are still a few about.
This is a Red-necked Wallaby. It stands about 1m tall at most.
Was sorting through old SD cards looking for some work related fossil photos and found this photo. Since I hadn't posted any wildlife photos of my own for ages I thought I'd post it here. It is an Australasian grebe swimming on the Alice Springs golf course pond (sadly now fenced off)
While heading to the office from the carpark this morning, I wandered along the path over Conifer Knoll. There were a lot of Little Corellas feeding, and in a patch of sun, this Bush Stone-Curlew chick.
Standing about 5 inches tall, at a distance it just looked like a miniature adult bird. It was only as I got closer that the fluffy down became apparent.
"Squeaky" the King Parrot, in a more natural setting than on my veranda eating bird-seed.
Today's campus birds started with a small group of three Bush Stone-curlews this morning, and then a family of ducks, some swamphen chicks and a Noisy Miner this afternoon.
There are also a fair number of Australasian Swamphen chicks around campus at the moment.
This one is fairly new, and still very fluffy.
Eastern Whipbird that was calling from the undergrowth next to the house the other day.
They're typically:
* very loud
* very secretive
* very difficult to spot
Either this family of Australian Wood Ducks had a late hatching, or have adopted a lost duckling, as one of the brood is a few weeks younger than the rest.
Who wants to hear a Great Barred Frog?
