I have a Nest doorbell, purchased 4 years ago, so 1st Gen. Today, the app quit working. I spend too much time with the Google online support. It was really frustrating. The fix turned up accidently, when the doorbell rang. Everything is back the way it is suppose to be, just by checking the notification. That is not on the tech support agents cheat sheets.

So somehow variable refresh rate/FreeSync is no longer working for me for borderless games? It worked perfectly until a few days ago and now it just refuses to comply. I can see from my monitor overlay that it works fine for fullscreen games, but as soon as I switch to bordlerless the refresh rate stays at a fixed 144 and the games become choppy during frame drops.
This is on Windows 11 with a FreeSync Monitor, Nvidia 4070ti Super and the most recent driver. G-Sync Compatible is enabled for both fullscreen and windowed and all the windows 11 optimizations are on...
I'm used to shit breaking randomly on Linux, I thought i was safe from that on Windows. Guess not.

does anybody have any tips on how to deal with stalled #bittorrent downloads from @internetarchive? these are all public domain movies from the 1910s, 20s and 30s and they stop 99.5 or 99.9%. some seem to be complete at 99.9% but most don’t work.
bittorrent can be very frustrating like that. i force checkout and download and nothing happens.

When new people try to use it and have questions, try to answer the question they're actually asking.
"How do I do X with Y?"
Instead of answering: "You shouldn't do X with Y! Why would you use Y if you wanted to do X?" Maybe answer like this:
"Here's how you can do X with Y."
Or if that's not the best answer, try something like one of these:
"Y makes it hard to do X, because it's prioritizing W. You can do it this way if you want to, but you might consider Z, which is similar and makes X a priority."
"Y leaves X off by default because of W, but you can turn it on by doing Z."
"Y doesn't do X at all because of W, but Z might be a workable alternative for the use case you describe." (W can be anything from a critical design goal to an arbitrary decision to just no one has gotten around to building the feature yet, and Z can be an alternative to either X or Y)
And most importantly, remember: Their use case for X (or Y, for that matter) is not necessarily the same as yours!

Got a wild one for you, my Windows 11 PC with an EVGA 3080 will show a black screen permanently (until reboot) if I allow the screen to turn off from windows sleep settings (while running heavy Handbrake jobs)
If I physically turn off the monitor instead, it's fine

Gamers/GPU nerds you're my only hope
EVGA Precision sometimes drops my GPU to "Power 25%" on this menu, massively underclocking my GPU. I have no idea why it does this and without checking daily, I only notice when a game runs like garbage

I'm getting this regularily. It seems to be related to my two Oculus Rift Sensors (essentially USB cameras) connected via a 4 meter USB 3.0 extension cable. Windows, however, never has an issue with them.
I'm curious. What exactly is happening here?

You're obviously able to list all the #Codecs natively supported and the user-available storage as well as supported Frequency Bands, WWAN modes, WiFi channel width and the Display Glass vs. Panel dimensions including DPI of the latter and whether or not it has a hall effect sensor to detect your overpriced 1st party tablet covers!
Now some folks may ask: "WHY does this matter?" or outright dismiss this as a problem.

Not everyone is able or willing to carry two devices when 1 SHOULD BE ENOUGH and also some places (i.e. #Turkey) have #ImportRestrictions re: #MobileDevices, so having more than 1 #IMEI is already a "NOPE!" by the authorities.

Bluetooth headphones for zoom meetings?
I’m on zoom meetings like 8 hours per day. I have a dedicated microphone, but I’d like to get Bluetooth headphones as I’m getting annoyed with the cable.
My only concern is that there would be latency. I’m actively speaking to people and I’m concerned the video and audio will be out of sync.
If this a legit concern?
The best part of being back on #win11 for #gaming purposes.... Everytime I sit down to use the computer.... I'm looking at my bios boot password. It's like windows knows I want a freshly rebooted PC with the latest updates to keep me secure and safe.

I have a new laptop that has no Ethernet port (WiFi only) and I want to install ubuntu on it (to later migrate my data from my existing laptop, also with Ubuntu)
I don't know how to access the bios and disable secureboot or whatever that crappy Microsoft DRM thingy is called; there was no manual with the laptop.

I've edited the /etc/pulse/daemon.conf file to 'default-sample-rate = 48000' as a thread from 3yrs ago discussed with plenty of folks seeing success & restarted my pc & power to index a bunch of times - no luck on that front
any ideas?
