Do you live in Vienna? Would you be willing to take a photograph for a writer based in San Francisco?
My debut novel THE EXPERT OF SUBTLE REVISIONS features Egon Schiele's Seated Woman with Bent Knees on the cover. Much of the story is set in Vienna AND the Schiele painting will be traveling to Vienna to be part of the Leopold Museum's Changing Times: Egon Schiele’s Last Years, 1914-18 show, which runs from 28 March-13 July.
I would LOVE a photograph of my book in front of the painting in Vienna, but I don't think I'll be able to get there myself. Would anyone be willing to take this shot? The show doesn't start for another couple weeks, but I figured if I start to look now, I might be able to find a volunteer and figure out the best way to get the book there. Please respond if you're willing to do this, or boost for reach!

Question #writersofmastodon I want to expand my creative repertoire and start writing poetry (and maybe screenplays in the future?) but I cannot fathom how. Idk if it's because I spent my whole life avoiding making poetry when I could because I knew I sucked at it or what. I just. don't know how one makes a poem.
I can live with being bad at it, but that isn't helping me start.
Can someone link me to some resources on poetry writing (and screenplay stuff)? Affordable books are fine too. Thx

I’m considering giving another go to carrying a small, physical notebook with me again, for a place to jot down story ideas and general brain noodling on the go.
But…
Anyone who carries such a thing: Where do you keep it when you’re away from home?
I have a courier bag I bring to work, but rarely use it otherwise.
In winter I wear coats — jackets in spring and autumn — but not all of them have practical pockets for even a little notebook and pen or pencil (and that’s another thing: Do you use a pencil to avoid exploding pens? Because they get stabby and can lead to holes in clothes.)
In summer I wear shorts and t-shirts. But even with cargo shorts, with my phone in one big pocket and wallet in the other, I don’t want either jabbed by pen or pencil.
I’d genuinely like to give an analog notebook another go to see if if varies what I capture from using my phone as a notebook, but in many ways it seems impractical to carry everywhere, which is of course the whole idea.
Suggestions?

Laura is part of a group of federal employees across multiple agencies who were suddenly fired last week due to their probationary status, despite having accepted the offer from a government-wide email titled "Fork in the Road."
... Neither the White House nor the federal agencies have publicly disclosed how many of them were laid off, and within that group, it's not clear how many people were mistakenly terminated despite accepting the "Fork in the Road" offer, which about 75,000 workers did...
Some federal workers have since been contacted by their agencies on their personal email and cell phone, informing them that they still qualify and need to opt-in again by Friday. But they worry that others who were terminated will slip through the cracks, unaware that they can still qualify for the deferred resignation program.

One thing that watching #anime has taught me, and I've breezed past 200 series at this point, none of my story ideas are close to unique. Every plot has been done a dozen times. It's the characters and how they combine with plot that matters, with the focused message we insert to be read between the lines being the thing that brings the light to the darkness. It's all that matters—other than not plagiarizing. If you are at all worried about uniqueness, stop. Hit your forehead with the heel of your palm. Sit. Write the dang thing until done. Then write something else.

what's something you've learned that's made your life easier in the kitchen?
Deglazing the pan as a proactive strategy to keep from burning while cooking. For cooking meat, fish, even cauliflower fried rice. These tend to dry up the fat or oil at higher heat settings, so I add cooking saki and leftover wine, or water that's near boiling near the end. If I have marinade, I use that early in the cooking process. I have a set of silicone sauce brushes. I add a few tablespoons of liquid, deglazing as I go. After decanting the food, I'll return the pan to the fire and deglaze in earnest, and pour it as sauce. The sizzling sound makes cooking more fun.
