It was much fun recording and producing "Leave the Light On" from #ComfyCollaborations https://music.futzle.com/comfy-collaborations/2/
I've never produced music with someone else's vocals before. In ways it's a bit constraining because I have to work with the recording I've got, but it's a good challenge to work within constraints sometimes. Aelyth's mezzo-soprano was perfect for this song, just what I imagined when I wrote it. If you want to hear more of her voice, go check out sideSister at https://sidesister.com/ and follow band member @elsemusic.
It was also wonderful as always to work with @jimbob who knows exactly the kind of bluesy guitar work I love. I shamelessly comped together five of his ad-libs for that instrumental. If you want to hear more of his music, he's on Bandcamp at https://milford.bandcamp.com/
I splurged during the November sales and bought Audio Modeling's SWAM Saxophones audio plugin (https://audiomodeling.com/swam-engine/solo-woodwinds/swam-saxophones/). This is an amazing VST for synthesizing saxophones, with so many dials to give the sound a natural feel. If you listen carefully you can even hear where I've pitch bent almost every note.
This song has been earworming me since I wrote it in November. If you attended my A Christmas Wasted With Deb Pickett show in December you have seen a rare performance of me doing my own vocals on the song. Fortunately now, the earworm has given way to, variously, every other song that's on the Comfy Collaborations album. Yay?
